ISO 50001 Energy Management Systems
What is it?
The UNE-ISO 50001 standard is the European Energy Management System that focuses on energy efficiency, as ISO 14001 does in the management and reduction of the impact on the environment, or ISO 9001 in the improvement of quality and customer satisfaction.
It is a traditional management system based on the Planning-Action-Review-Action cycle, which requires the development and implementation of a policy to improve energy efficiency. The methodology requires the establishment of specific objectives, combining actions and resources to control and reduce the use of energy, verifying energy savings and planning improvements. This certification helps establishing a continuous process that leads to a more efficient use of energy.
This management system involves all processes and its objective is to reduce the energy consumption generated by any type of source (electricity, gasoline, gas or renewables) and its uses.
The principles of UNE-ISO 50001, are inspired by EN 16001. Therefore, companies certified in EN 16001 will be prepared for ISO 50001.

Who is it for?
This standard focuses on offering a control system to reduce energy consumption and it is applicable to all types of organisations regardless of their size, sector or geographical location.
However, it is particularly relevant for those organisations that carry out processes of high energy intensity or those facing the challenge of reducing greenhouse gases.
