EMAS
What is it?
The EMAS Regulation (Eco-Management and Audit Scheme) is a community environmental management and audit system whose adherence is voluntary and regulated in the European Union through Regulation (CE) No. 1221/2009 and its amendments later. This regulation is mainly based on ISO 14001, however, EMAS has its own requirements for companies and organizations that want to commit to evaluating, managing and improving their environmental performance.
The EMAS III Regulation is regulated by Regulation (CE) No. 1221/2009 of the European Parliament and of the Council of November 25, 2009 and modified by Commission Regulation (EU) 2017/1505 of August 28, 2017 and of the Regulation (EU) 2018/2026 of the Commission of December 19, 2018.
Who is it for?
Any organization, public or private, that wishes to improve its behavior in environmental matters can participate.
EMAS’ goal is to promote continuous improvements in the environmental performance of organizations through the establishment and application of an environmental management system, the evaluation of the performance of such system, the dissemination of information on environmental performance, open dialogue with the public and other stakeholders and the active involvement of staff.
