PROVACUNO
What is it?
It is a certification seal created to endorse the good practices carried out in matters of animal welfare, health, biosecurity, animal handling and traceability, in all links of the Spanish beef value chain. The Regulation has been prepared by PROVACUNO (Interprofessional Agrifood Organization of beef) in collaboration with certifiers, administration, scientists and experts in animal welfare.
PAWS applies the highest standards of animal welfare at the international level, meeting the 5 Freedoms and the 5 General Criteria for Animal Welfare set by the World Organization for Animal Health (OIE):
- Animals free from hunger, thirst and malnutrition
- Animals free from fear and anguish
- Animals free from physical or thermal discomfort
- Animals free of physical or thermal discomfort
- Free animals to express their own patterns of behavior
In order to obtain the PAWS seal, in addition to the legal requirements regarding Animal Welfare, additional requirements that imply a high level in this area must be met, such as verification of the environment, biosecurity, housing conditions, food, water, sanitation, among other aspects, also guaranteeing adequate traceability to ensure the proper use of the brand in the products that are made available to the consumer.
Who is it for?
This product is aimed at all those livestock producers, slaughterhouses and industries in the beef production sector.
