OCA Global in the Titanic shipyard

28.11.2019

Last July, OCA Global completed an inspection assignment at the Harland and Wolff shipyard in Belfast, Northern Ireland..

For a year and a half, they have been performing welding inspection functions in the construction of 18jackets (foundations) for offshore wind farm East Anglia One of Scottish Power and Iberdrola.

The shipyard was founded in 1861, and between 1909 and 1912 the famous ocean liner RMS Titanic was built, along with RMS Olympic and HMHS Britannic. The three ships formed the Clase Olympic of the shipping company White Star Line, which to this day remains a benchmark in the construction of ships and marine structuresoffshore.

In the case of East Anglia One, 18 jackets with a height of 65 m and an approximate weight of 875 t each. In addition, each of these jackets will be fixed to the sea floor off the coast of Suffolk in the North Sea, where a total of 102 wind turbines will be installed to provide 714 MW of wind power.

With an investment of £2.5 billion, this offshore wind farm will supply 630,000 homes with clean energy after its final commissioning in 2020.
