We support the African Development Bank's "Desert to Power" initiative with a guide on climate adaptation for solar power generation in the Sahel.

OCA Global's Consulting and Technical Advisory Division will start in September the project "Technical Assistance for the development of a Risk Detection Tool and spatial climate hazard data for the Sahel region" funded by the Global Adaptation Center.

This eight-month initiative will result in a screening tool and guidelines for assessing and adapting to climate risks from solar power generation in the Sahel region. Within the Desert to Power (DtP) initiative, promoted by the African Development Bank, the technical assistance will provide tools to support subsequent investment planning. The Sahel countries are among the most vulnerable to climate change in Africa, with numerous challenges in the energy sector. However, the Sahel has enormous potential for solar power generation and low-carbon development.

The DtP project is an economic development and renewable energy initiative that aims to develop a low-emission energy generation pathway in the Sahel. The Project aims to assess the potential impacts of climate change for solar power generation infrastructure in the region under different climate scenarios, as well as provide technical recommendations for adaptation to be used as a reference for future solar development projects in the Sahel. The work will support the assessment of climate hazards in the region and investment decisions for DfP projects.

The project will start in September 2022 with the organization of a kick-off meeting with the African Development Bank, representatives of the Global Adaptation Center and other key stakeholders.
