OCA Global rehabilitates Angus-Pulangi hydroelectric complex in Philippines

26.07.2022

The European Commission has awarded OCA Global this rehabilitation project which will consist of providing consultancy and technical assistance services to the Angus-Pulangi Hydroelectric Complex (CHAP) Scope 2 Phase. The project aims to correct a long-standing problem: the region's energy deficiency and the increasing demand for power that has grown over the past 5 years. Although the Agus and Pulangi hydropower plants have an installed capacity of 1,000 MW, only 600-700 MW is currently available, mainly due to aging facilities and siltation.

OCA Global's support will consist of environmental and social impact assessment for the rehabilitation of hydropower infrastructure in two locations, Angus and Pulangi, both located on Mindanao Island, the second largest island in the Philippines, in the southern region of the archipelago. These services will include the collection and writing of all data and documentation that may be required to assess the cumulative effects associated with the design, construction, operation and eventual decommissioning of the CHAP power plants and ancillary facilities of the 2 hydroelectric complexes. These tasks will be carried out in accordance with environmental and social standards and World Bank safeguard policies, as the region is environmentally and socially sensitive, and the project site overlaps with areas of ancestral domain of recognized indigenous peoples.
