OCA Global organizes hybrid event to share knowledge on local and international wildfire management in Lebanon

Within the framework of the World Bank-funded project "Promoting sustainable forest management to cope with forest fires in Lebanon" and with the financial support of the PROGREEN Trust Fund, OCA Global's Consulting and Technical Advisory division delivered a one-day session to train local forest management actors from all over the country and share their knowledge and experiences in forest fire prevention, preparedness, response and recovery. International experts from the PROGREEN initiative and the Pau Costa Foundation also shared concepts, knowledge and tools to inspire discussions. The event took place at AFDC's Ramliyeh Forestry Center on February 17, 2023, with a welcome address by H.E. Mr. Nasser Yassin - Minister of Environment.

The morning sessions included presentations on good practices by international experts from the World Bank and a presentation on Lebanese fire response structures and tools by local fire management experts. This was followed by an expert from the Pau Costa Foundation, who spoke on forest fire behavior as well as integrated management and planning. A final session, by the local volunteer organization Akkar Trail, presented their case study on forest fire mitigation as an example of a success story, involving local communities in sustainable forest management.

This is the first in a series of training events aimed at supporting Lebanon in its efforts to achieve efficient and effective sustainable forest management to prevent, prepare for, respond to and recover from recurrent forest fires.
